WEEK 8: Gothic Architecture Prior Knowledge: My knowledge yet again was limited on the subject of Gothic Architecture. My knowledge of the gothic genre comes from the modern day dressing where black eye liner and black clothing. The architectural side I have probably seen but not accepted as being from that genre. I believe there will be a lot to learn and some bits that I will be able to bring forward. My notes and takeaways from the lecture Defining Gothic:     Gothic is a term used by the Renaissance to describe certain types of art and architecture of the Middle Ages Gothic Architecture was considered inferior by the Renaissances, similar to how the Roman's held themselves superior to the Barbarians.  As time moved on moved on the term Gothic morphed into literature with elements of horror added in. Week 7: God's Architecture and Politics in Architecture   My initial thoughts and knowledge My overall knowledge is quite limited. Although having visited a lot of cathedrals, churches and other places of worship on travels in France and Italy, I have never looked at them architecturally, but instead for their beauty and tranquillity. However since listening to this lecture I have been out at churches in Oxford and been able to spot the different styles that were discussed. Christchurch cathedral Oxford I have always had an interest in politics and when the second part of the lecture was on politics in Architecture I was very interested to find out more. Architecture of Ancient Greece and Rome W elcome to the first post of my blog for my BA1 Artefact 2. I was interested by the choice of a blog by my lecturer Roger Tyrell, but through research and reading previous students blogs I can see how it is a great way to assess.  Week 6   My Initial Thoughts/Knowledge A s the title states this week the lectures were on the Architecture from the people of ancient Greece and ancient Rome. This is one of the most well-known times in Architectural History. The effects of the Roman and Greek empires can be seen around the world today, especially in Great Britain. The Roman Empire spread to Britain in AD 43 under Emperor Claudius. This was the start of a huge campaign that ended in AD 84 with control of Britain. The Roman culture came with this crusade, bringing with it the architecture of the Roman's.
