Architecture and Beyond (Week 1)

Architecture and Beyond

This is going to be a series on my blog where I review and give my opinion on the weeks news. This news will be Architectural but also current affairs. I am constantly reading the news so hopefully can write some good opinions and give my own insight. So without further ado let's get into this weeks news.

Russia Invasion of Ukraine

In the past two weeks we have seen the horrific scenes that are being repor
ted from Ukraine. The response in a couple of weeks has been outrageous with over £85 million being raised, although charities are calling for more to happen. However people are calling for more to happen other than just raise money. The government has put in sanctions against Russia. The sanctions vary from asset freezing of many Russian officials including Putin and Lavrov as well as hundreds of people who voted to recognise

independence of Donetsk and Luhansk. On top of sanctions against people including multiple travel bans the UK, EU,USA and many other countries put sanctions on Russian banks not allowing them to trade but also not to be allowed to use there international reserve. There are further sanctions which I could talk about along the lines of countries not using Russian oil which has driven the price of fuel up, but I won't because it would be boring to keep on listing every single one. However why are people calling for the UK government to do more? I really can't understand. We have already donated the most amount of weapons, money aid and continue to do so. The UK can't do much more without creating a full blown world war. No one wants that, people want more but surely not to create one of the biggest wars the world has ever seen. The reason why we can't commit to war is that it has to be agreed by NATO. The UK as an individual can't send troupes and artillery without bringing the US, Canada and most of the EU. I also have sympathy for the government having just got through COVID we move straight onto the next major problem, there is no break for them at the moment. I also stand with Ukraine and hope they can see this through they have done amazingly well and I hope Putin can see straight and create a cease fire along with peace talks. We need to keep supporting our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.

Royal Navy catch £6.5million of drug bust

Located out in the Middle East prowling the Gulf of Oman, HMS Montrose had seen a dhow. Having pulled along side they counted 6.5 tonnes of cannabis resin having captured the boat. This is the biggest drug bust in decades in the Middle East. I personally see this as a huge win, I am against drugs so hearing about this was amazing.

Elon Musk proposes Tesla Tunnel in Miami

Elon Musk has proposed a tunnel to help the traffic flow in Miami. It would be a 6 mile tunnel where tesla cars drive through. People arrive at the entrance and will be placed in a tesla car that will dive through the tunnel at up to 150 mph compared to the 65 mph normally. Now is this worth it? When it moves 7,500 people in an hour it is possible. Although it only moves A to B I think it will change how people travel. It could create jobs as well as a future where there are tunnels under a city for cars and leave the streets free for people and cyclists it would be able to have freedom to roam the streets. Elon Musk is one of the most influential people in the world. He is already moving quickly into the future and this is just another example of him doing so. Florida has already approved this which is exciting and will give the chance to see if it works.
